A portion of all Rosa y Fruta profits go to different choosen charities each year. In past years Rosa y Fruta has given to the United Children's Fund, Wee Campanions, Best Friends Animal Society, The Jane Goodall Institute, World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and Defender's of Wildlife Foundation, along with helping local families that can not afford their vet care bills.
This year Rosa y Fruta gave to Bunny Rescue, International Medical Corps (providing health services to mother and baby), Heal Africa (for vocational training for rape victims), Somaly Mam (to provide psychological counseling to girls who were enslaved), Global Giving (for school lunches for girls in Burkina Faso and for small business skill for Afghan women).

I currently have one darling rescued rabbit. I had four... Photo far left: Fiver girl (the white bunny with spots) and the love her life, Bucky boy (the lop). Photo closest left: Canela (the calico looking bunny) and the love of her life, Sir Herby Chocolate Moose Toddy the Tootsie Roll (Herby for short)- such a long name for such a little guy (these two sweethearts were recently adopted by a loving vet technician.
All my rabbits are free (uncaged) and because they are all potty trained they live with us inside the house with access to protected outdoors. They are a joy to live with and are truly part of the family!
Rabbits are such charming, lovable, playful, and social creatures! I think it is such a shame when people leave their rabbits in hutches. It such a lonely boring existence for the buns. No one would ever dream of keeping their cat hutched, yet rabbits have just as much need to excercise, explore, and bond with the family. Hutches were originally designed to raise rabbits as meat, and the rabbits were usually slaughtered within a year. Hutches are no place for a pet rabbit who can live up to twelve years. Hutched rabbits are prone to more illness such as sore hocks, osteoporosis (lack of excersise), and depression. One of my goals is to educate people on the benefits and the "how to" of keeping their rabbit responsibly free.
Many times owners give their rabbits away due to behavioral problems. However, with a little rabbit savy knowledge, rabbits can actually be very easy animals to care for. Rabbits make you eat better! Since I feed my rabbits wild and organic greens like parsley, dandelion, romaine lettuce, kale, endive, and a bit of apple and blueberries, all that fresh produce makes me want to eat that way too. They also get American Pet Diner's hay (mountain grass and timothy gold), and Picolo's organic timothy pellets. They love hay cubes by Kaytee- good for their teeth! They also get a vet check up once a year to make sure they are all in good health.
